How To Remove Stress From Your Life Part 1 Tips 1-3

How to remove stress from your life

In this week’s Success Newsletter, I would like to share with your powerful strategies to help you lower and remove stress from your life.

First a quick update:

“Secrets to losing weight, being thin and loving your body”
My 3 CD set from a live presentation and workshop is out now. And no, it’s not about food or exercise!

“Barrack Obama, bad parenting and lies”
Barrack addressed the NAACP convention in Ohio and says it’s time for personal responsibility and better parenting. Obama says parents have to take responsibility, provide “direct guidance to children and “that what makes them a man is not the ability to have a child but to raise one.”Listen to my interview with Scott Sloan of 700WLW when I also reveal why dads are to blame for rising teen pregnancies.

Now let’s talk about ways to lower and remove stress in your life.

Here are three steps of eight that I teach in my new live 3 CD set: “Secrets to losing weight, being thin and loving your body” available for you now:

“I’d like to begin by sharing an insight with you that I had when I was just eighteen years of age. And this is a principle to which I lived by to this day. As I stood on the platform of the train station, waiting for the morning train to go to high school, I thought about the train ride, about how stressed everyone is. “Everyone’s rushing to get to work on time, and everyone seems to be rushing to go to places that they don’t even really want to be.” And in that moment I had a revelation: “In our modern, western society, we spend all of our health getting our wealth. And then we spend all of our wealth trying to get back our health.” So in that moment, I made a conscious choice, a conscious decision to always put health first. So let’s talk now about how to be healthy: How to remove stress from your life.

Step number one: Simplify.

Too many of us get stuck in the myth, in the lie, that the more things we have, the happier we will be. So we spend so much of our time, energy, effort, money and health trying to get more and more material possessions. Now, I’m not saying not to strive for the goals and the things you want in life; I’m talking about prioritizing. What is important to you in life? If you want to lower the stress in your life and be healthy, the first thing you must do is simplify your life. Write out a list of all the things you have, and all the things you do, and decide which ones you need to continue to hold on to. Do we always need to have a bigger car, a bigger house, a bigger television? Now there’s nothing wrong with these pursuits – simplifying your life refers to removing all the things that are not ultimately necessary, in your life. And yes, it might mean giving up the second or the third car. It might mean foregoing some of the extra co-curricular activities for your children. If you’re a parent, and you’re trying to hold down a job or a second job and you’re trying to run your kids from one activity to another, expect to feel stressed out. Some parents feel guilty for the long hours they work and so they try to buy their children with more and more gifts. Other parents feel guilty and they try to make up for it by engaging in as many co-curricular activities as possible with their children. The result is that you create stress for both yourself and your child. So again, simplify. What are the most important activities that your child needs to engage in? Write out how many co-curricular activities your child will do. Part of simplifying involves understanding and defining what is truly important to you. If you can establish that, you’ll know in which areas to cut back.

Step number two: Changing your perception.

Now I’m not talking here about “Is the glass half full or half empty?” It’s about the entire way you choose to look at life. Do you choose to view everything as a threat or an attack upon you? Or do you choose to view things as goals? It’s the difference between anxiety and excitement. It’s the difference between seeing something as frightening or seeing something as challenging. It’s the difference between seeing something as unbelievably uncomfortable or, something that might be a new adventure for you. One of the most powerful ways to relieve stress, change your perception, feel better and increase your motivation is through appreciation and gratitude.  Dopamine is a hormone and neurotransmitter. It is involved in the pleasure seeking system of the brain. When we engage in activities such as appreciation of beauty and gratitude, our brain releases more Dopamine which, in turn, also gives us greater motivation in life. I have always promoted gratitude and appreciation as one of the most positive emotions that we have. One of the exercises I do every day in the morning is to either write out or verbalize a list of all of the tings and people in my life for which I am grateful. I live on the beach, facing the ocean, so when I walk down the flights of stairs, I proceed to verbalize, be it mentally or aloud all the things and people that I’m grateful for in my life. That raises my mood, that raises my spirit, and it increases my motivation to do things. It shifts my perception about life. Because it’s true, you get more of what you focus on. Begin now to write out a daily list of everything that you could be grateful for. You can start with five things a day. Then build to ten, build to twenty, if you ask me right now, I could quickly and easily verbalize at least fifty things in my life for which I am truly and deeply grateful. Understand also, that on the other end of the scale, is revenge, which is like a poison in your body. Revenge, resentment, bitterness, anger and hatred, are all poisons in your body. Let go of the poisons and feed your body with healthy, positive feelings and emotions starting with appreciation and gratitude. Part of the key to changing your perception is to simply believe that “It’s going to be OK. Everything will work out.” From there, you begin to do what we call in Neuro Linguistic Programming “Chunking.” Chunking means you take everything in small bites; small steps; one step at a time. No longer does that huge problem seem to be so huge or overwhelming when you break it down. Changing your perception also involves forgiveness. We’re trying to change the way you feel about yourself and the world around you. The more you can love life and accept yourself, the happier you will be, and the less stress you will have.

That leads us to step three.

I call it, “Stop.” Stop trying to be right, stop trying to control others, stop trying to manipulate others, stop trying to change others, and stop seeking the approval of other people. In working with clients, I often ask a very simple question, “Which would you prefer, to be right or to be happy?” In other words, identify what you can control and change, and what you can’t control and change. And then proceed only to change and control what you can. And ultimately, that always comes down to just you. You can change and control you and no one else. But when you do change you, you’ll also change your world and your life.”
