How To Remove Stress From Your Life Part 2 – Tips 4-8

Removing stress Part 2

In this week’s Success Newsletter, I would like to reveal another five powerful strategies to help you lower and remove stress from your life.

First a quick update:

“Anti-depressants cause deaths, suicide and murder”
America is the most medicated nation in the world. In 2005, 118 million prescriptions were issued for antidepressants. According to psychiatry, depression is a mental illness – a chemical imbalance in the brain, an organic neurological disorder. Does that mean that as many as a hundred million Americans have something wrong with their brain? Listen to my interview with Psychiatrist Peter Breggin, author of “Medication Madness: A Psychiatrist Exposes the Dangers of Mood-Altering Medications.” Dr Breggin reveals that there is no scientific evidence that depression is a chemical imbalance.

In my Success Newsletter “How to remove the stress from your life”, I listed three steps to lower and remove stress in your life: 1. Simplify – determine what are the priorities in your life and what is unnecessary; 2. Change your perception – view life as exciting and challenging; 3. Stop trying to be right, stop trying to control and change, and stop seeking the approval of other people.

Here are the other five steps of eight that I teach in my new live 3 CD set: “Secrets to losing weight, being thin and loving your body”:

“Step four: Know what you want. If you don’t know what you want in your life, you’ll find yourself to be lost, confused, anxious, angry, irritable and frustrated. Now, you’re going to ask me “How can I know what I want?” In my book, “Get What You Want”, I have a very simple exercise that helps you to quickly establish what your passion in life is. In a couple of my other books, “Get The Man You Want”, and “Soul mates:  Find Your Perfect Match”, I have a very powerful exercise that helps you to establish and prioritize your values. That means what are the things, standards and principles in life that are important to you. If you can establish and be very clear about what is important to you -what your values are, then you won’t waste your time getting stressed out doing things that are not fulfilling and that leave you feeling unhappy.

Step number five: Exercise. Now many people say to me, “Oh, Patrick I don’t have the time to exercise”. Yes you do, watch less television, wake up a little earlier, go to sleep a little later. It’s only a matter of 20 to 30 minutes a day that will make all the difference if you choose to exercise. And if you engage in the right kind of exercise, doctor-approved cardio exercise; you will actually sleep better at night. And yes you’ll have more energy in the day. And you don’t need to join the gym or buy the latest equipment. You can simply start by walking, then walking faster, then running, then eventually building up to some other forms of exercise.

Step six: Mental and emotional relaxation. That means take some time out. Take a break. Engage in yoga, meditation, prayer, or hypnosis. Your body needs to rest, your mind needs to rest, and so too do your emotions. When you’re engaged in effective hypnosis, your brain waves slow down. Slowing down your brain waves leads to relaxation. And it has all sorts of added health benefits.

Step number seven: Take the weekends off. Take a vacation. Somehow, we’ve put ourselves into this destructive dangerous pattern of working 7 days a week. You must have at least one day a week, where you do nothing associated with work. Preferably, two days a week. That’s why we originally call it the “week-end.”

With regards to a vacation, America is the only industrialized nation in the world that I know of that doesn’t take four weeks off a year. Germany has six weeks. Now, why is this important? Because what we’re ultimately doing is only allowing ourselves three or four days to try wind down. You need two to three weeks at a time. One full week to wind down, one week to enjoy yourself, and then one week  to start building up again, ready to go back to work. If it’s not possible to do this, then sit down and schedule a long weekend. And when you take that long weekend, make sure you switch everything off. Cell phones, pagers, etc. Again, this is about how important you decide that your health is to you.

The other reasons that most of us choose not to take vacations is out of fear. We’re scared that if we take a long vacation, we’re going to lose our job. If you’re going to live out the fear, you might as well take that vacation because you’re not going to enjoy your life. We should only be working so that we can live. We should not be living so that we can work.

Step eight:  Eat healthy. Most of us know what it means to eat healthy. You know when the donuts, the ice cream, the sodas and the fried food are bad for you. You know white rice, white flour, white sugar are not good for you. You know that fruits and vegetables are better for you than processed food. This is about discipline, taking action and following through. And yes, we will address the subconscious reasons why you might be choosing unhealthy food…

…And I like to think of it this way. If you had a million dollar horse, would you feed it sugar, fats, fried food and other junk foods? Would you let all the people come to the stable and just throw trash all over it? Then why do you treat yourself that way? Why do you feed yourself this junk food? Why do you allow people to trash on you? Aren’t you worth more than a million dollars? Yes you are.”

I wish you the best and remind you “Believe in yourself -You deserve the best!”
