Is actress Mackenzie Phillips a victim of False Memory Syndrome?
Phillips, daughter of the famous singer and musician John Phillips of The Mamas and Papas, claims she had a long-term incestuous relationship with her father, in her tell-all memoir book, “High on Arrival”.
Phillips, the 49-year-old former child star and daughter of the Mamas and the Papas founder John Phillips, says she had consensual sex with her father for years and even says she had sex with her father the night before she was to marry Jeff Sessler, a member of the Rolling Stones entourage, in 1979.
Phillips, best known as Julie Cooper on the sitcom “One Day at a Time,” says the sexual relationship became consensual as her life began to spiral out of control. During her time on the hit CBS comedy, which ran from 1975 to 1984, she battled drug addiction and underwent drug rehabilitation. She later was fired from the show in 1980 because of her drug abuse.
On “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” Phillips also revealed that her father shot her up with drugs. John Phillips, who died in 2001, had a well-documented drug problem and was convicted of drug trafficking in 1981. He told many stories of his drug abuse in his memoir, “Papa John.”
Mackenzie Phillips also claims she had a sexual encounter with rock ‘n’ roll legend Mick Jagger but actress Bijou Phillips is shooting down her half-sister Mackenzie Phillips’ allegations that their father, Mamas and the Papas leader John Phillips, sexually abused her.
“When I was young my sister told me about this, It ruined my life and my relationship with my father,” Bijou wrote in a Twitter post on Monday on an account that has since been removed. “Up till that point, I was a normal kid. I got good grades, loved my horse, was pretty innocent. I moved out to NYC, at 13.”
According to Bijou the sexual abuse claims, which her half-sister details in her new book, “High On Arrival,” lead to her own life spiraling out of control. “Started doing drugs, did not talk to my Dad anymore…I was deeply f***ed up,” she continued in a series of Tweets. “I’m 29 now, I’ve talked to everyone who was around during that time, I’ve asked the hard questions. I do not believe my Sister. Our father is many things, This is not one of them.”
Bijou says that Mackenzie’s sexual abuse allegations were responsible for her damaged relationship with their father, and says she made up with her father a year before he died when she was 20.
Many of John Phillip’s family members are coming out in his defense with the exception of Half-sister, Chynna Phillips who has said she believes Mackenzie. Is it possible that Mackenzie Phillips is just making up these claims to help generate publicity and sales for her new book or is it possible that she is telling the truth? And why has she waited so many years to reveal this dark secret to the world?
