In 2010, Jennifer Anniston said that women can have and raise children without men; fathers are unnecessary: “Women are realizing more and more that you don’t have to settle, they don’t have to fiddle with a man to have that child …They are realizing if it’s that time in their life and they want this part they can do it with or without that.”

But Aaron Huey, Co-founder and President of Fire Mountain Programs, says a woman can’t teach a boy masculinity in the same way that a man can’t teach a girl femininity.

Aaron Huey tells Human Behavior Expert Patrick Wanis, PhD that boys also need a rite of passage to move from boyhood to manhood. Aaron also reveals the origins and significance of rites of passage, and explains that if adults don’t provide a rite of passage, children will create their own i.e. gangs, sex, drugs and rock and roll. Aaron and Wanis also explore the definition of masculinity and call out men who refuse to fulfill their responsibilities as a father because of immaturity, divorce or other excuses about the mother of the child.
