Secrets of Hypnosis & Persuasion

Secrets of Hypnosis & Persuasion
Secrets of Hypnosis & Persuasion

Contrary to popular belief, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis.

All hypnosis is self-hypnosis! In other words, the participant hypnotizes him or herself with the guidance of the expert hypnotist, and at any time, the participant may choose to accept or reject the suggestions. Therefore hypnosis cannot control you or anybody else. However, there are techniques and principles from hypnosis that one can use for effective communication and persuasion in business and personal relationships.

The power and effectiveness of hypnosis comes from our beliefs, self-image and self-worth. As evidenced in the hypnosis performances of Patrick Wanis, when you believe something to be real, it becomes real for you. In Patrick Wanis’ shows, he has hypnotized participants and told them that they have just seen the funniest thing in the world and they cannot help laughing, and the more that they look at Patrick, the more they will laugh. These people proceed to laugh so hard that their eyes begin to water and some even laugh until they cry.

How is that possible?

They believe they have seen the funniest thing in the world.

In corporate settings, Patrick Wanis asks a volunteer from the audience to come up to the stage for a simple demonstration of the power of belief. Patrick asks the volunteer to raise her arm parallel to the floor and make the arm stiff as Patrick Wanis pushes down on it. He now asks the volunteer to close her eyes and repeat ten times (with emotion and belief) “I am weak.” She now raises her arm again and Patrick tests the strength of the outstretched arm. The audience and the volunteer are in disbelief and shock as the arm appears to be obviously weak and the volunteer can barely keep it straight. Patrick now asks the same volunteer to do the same exercise and this time repeat ten times (with emotion and belief) “I am strong.” Lo and behold she and the audience are equally shocked as her arm is now strong and firm.

Clearly, what has happened is that the volunteer’s body has responded to her words and emotion, to her belief about herself.

What do you believe about yourself? Do you believe at the deepest level that you deserve the best in life -love, joy, health, prosperity and happiness? And what do you believe you can achieve? Are your beliefs empowering you and helping you to achieve happiness or are they keeping you down, weakening you, and robbing you of happiness?

Do you know that your body also responds to your beliefs?

From Patrick Wanis’ book, How To Hypnotize Anyone :

Probably the best example of mind over body power comes from my stage hypnosis show. I hypnotize a group of people and tell them, “You are now on a deserted planet. Two weeks has passed and you have had nothing to drink. It is so hot and dry.

“You are hot and thirsty. In a moment, you will open your eyes, and you will be ten times more thirsty than you already are, and you will come to me.

“In my hand will be a fresh, ripe, juicy peach. You will take three big bites from it. You will chew it slowly, and it will quench your thirst.

“When you have finished chewing and eating this wonderful fresh, ripe juicy peach, you will go back to your seat, close your eyes and fall asleep.”

Upon opening their eyes, it is quickly obvious that these hypnotized people are hot and thirsty. You see them loosen their collars, pant deeply, and call out for water.

They approach me and sometimes even push each other out of the way to get to the peach in my hand. They take three large bites and chew it slowly. The feeling of joy and satisfaction from eating that peach is all over their faces. They then return happily to their seats and fall back asleep. Their thirst has obviously been quenched.

Now you ask, what is so special about that? I pass around to the audience what is left of that fresh, ripe, juicy “peach.” The audience laughs and at the same time is in total shock as they see that what these hypnotized people just ate was in fact not a fresh, ripe juicy peach, but a raw onion. Yes, a raw onion!

So what happened? How did these people eat a raw onion and not taste it? Why did they not spit it out or frown horribly at the awful taste? Why did not even one of them cry? And how were they able to chew it so slowly for so long and not even flinch but instead look as if they were actually enjoying it?

They were so deeply hypnotized that they did not see, smell or taste the onion. Their minds convinced their bodies that what they were eating was a peach. Even if someone is allergic to onions, they will not be affected, because the body does not recognize the onion
– it believes it is a peach.

Here’s the other truly amazing thing. Twenty to 30 minutes later, at the end of the show, when they come out of trance, I approach my hypnotic subjects and mention that their breath smells like onions.

Although they don’t remember ever eating an onion, suddenly the foul taste takes over, and sometimes tears well up in their eyes. Now that’s the power of the mind in action!

The same principle applies to us in everyday life. What do you believe you can achieve? Do you believe you can and deserve to be thin, healthy and happy? Do you believe you can control or manage your emotions? Do you believe you have the power and ability to be happy and choose happiness at any given moment? Do you believe you have the power to give up smoking? Of course, your belief is not simply about will power, it is also about positive imagination. If you can imagine yourself (with emotion) as being and achieving something, then it will come true. This is partly the process of how beliefs are formed and changed. We see and feel things. If we accept these to be true, they come true for us.

Roger Bannister and the four-minute mile
On May 6, 1954, Roger Bannister ran the first sub-four-minute mile in recorded history. The 25-year-old native of England completed the distance in 3:59.4 at Oxford. When he was asked to explain that first four-minute mile-and the art of record breaking-he answered with original directness: ‘It’s the ability to take more out of yourself than you’ve got.'” Roger was referring to the power of belief. Many thousands of people have run the sub-four-minute mile since Roger Bannister’s achievement. Why? How? Suddenly thousands of people were able to run the same time because they believed they could do it.

You may recall that about fifteen years ago, airplanes use to carry brown paper bags in front of every passenger seat because so many people would vomit during flights. Those bags no longer exist and except for those people who are ill or drunk, a person vomiting on a flight is now almost unheard of. Why? What changed? Our beliefs about flying have changed. For the majority of us, traveling on an airplane is second nature. We no longer have the same resistance and fear that we did in the past. Our beliefs have changed.

What could you achieve if you could change your beliefs?

Patrick Wanis teaches you how to change your beliefs about yourself and your abilities.

Patrick Wanis teaches you how to take charge of your life, how to get results and find happiness.

Persuasion and Happiness -The philosophy
Patrick Wanis believes that the key to unlocking our potential lies in our ability to identify our strengths and weaknesses and then forgive, love and accept ourselves and others. In so doing, we change our self-image and belief about our self-worth and what we deserve.

The more you like yourself, the more other people like you.

The higher your self-esteem, the more people you can get along with.

As you change, people around you respond to you differently. When you are confident, at ease and at peace with yourself, it puts people around you at ease; They lower their defenses and let you into their world. This is one of the first keys to persuasion.

The second key is to enter into the world of the other person, understand and feel what he or she feels (see the world and experience it from his or her eyes.) From there, with the appropriate techniques and strategies, you can safely and gently guide them to the result you desire. This knowledge and skill can be applied in personal relationships and in business -sales, management, leadership and marketing.

Patrick believes that the key to happiness is forgiveness and the releasing of negative emotions, which, in turn, allows us to enjoy the present moment, to express ourselves freely without fear, to realize our goals and dreams, and to receive love and prosperity.
