The Top 10 Celebrity Meltdowns of 2016

It’s The Tenth Annual List!

Lying to the world when representing your country, kicking a TV show producer, attacking a woman in a restaurant, punching a teenager, claiming to be a powerless victim when you are worth 560 million dollars, shouting delusions on a plane; this is a sample of the celebrity meltdowns and bad behavior of 2016.

Celebrity meltdowns is defined as behavior that involves or includes lies, violence, anger, rage, tantrums, stupid, irresponsible, immature, selfish, entitled, illegal, narcissistic, immoral, unethical, impulsive, uncontrollable, self-destructive, dangerous or hypocritical behavior.

Can you guess who had the number 1 celebrity meltdown of 2016?

10. Justin Bieber
Entitlement and delusions of grandeur in the form of ‘I’m above the law…Don’t you know who I am?’ are common major issues for celebrities. On December 21st, Justin Bieber was indicted in Argentina for a 2013 incident in which Bieber allegedly ordered a bodyguard to beat a photographer and then steal his money. Bieber failed to return to Argentina in 2014 to respond to the initial charges and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

9. Katt Williams
His profession is to make people laugh, yet he is full of rage and has been arrested for violence numerous times. Williams was arrested 3 times in March 2016 alone, one of those arrests was for disorderly conduct after getting into a fist fight with a teenager during a soccer match. Katt Williams was also charged with misdemeanor battery for allegedly attacking a female employee at a restaurant; he was sued by a former assistant Angelina Triplett-Hill who claims Katt struck her in the face, threw her to the ground, and knocked her unconscious; Angelina spent 3 days in the hospital. Katt Williams also punched a pool supply store employee in February.

8. Selma Blair
It should be blaringly obvious – ‘never mix alcohol and medications.’ Selma Blair learned that lesson the painful way. Selma Blair was removed on a stretcher from a flight from Cancun and taken to a local hospital after she had an outburst mid-flight screaming delusions such as “He beats me. He’s going to kill me” and “He burns my private parts.” Selma Blair had mixed alcohol and medications. However, Blaid did offer a real and sincere apology:

“I take this very seriously, and I apologize to all of the passengers and crew that I disturbed and am thankful to all of the people who helped me in the aftermath. I am a flawed human being who makes mistakes and am filled with shame over this incident. I am truly very sorry.”

7. Thomas Gibson
For 11 years, Thomas Gibson played FBI Special Agent Aaron Hotchner in “Criminal Minds” but he was fired in August 2016, for kicking an executive producer of the show on set. And it was not an isolated incident: Gibson had also hit an assistant director in 2010 and had to undergo anger management counseling.

6. Kanye West
This is the sixth time that Kanye West has demonstrated behavior that has catapulted him into the annual list of the top 10 celebrity meltdowns – 2008, 2009, 2013, 2014, 2015 and now 2016. Each of the meltdowns can be traced back to the unresolved trauma over the loss and death of his mother in 2007. Kanye West actually blames himself for his mother’s death, saying he should never have brought her to Los Angeles. Kanye West’s erratic behavior and various meltdowns also point to narcissism as well as signs of manic depressive behavior – also known as bipolar disorder. In November during a concert, West went on a tirade about Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton and soon after he cancelled the remainder of his tour. Next, police allegedly spent 2 hours trying to convince Kanye West to check himself into hospital after it was deemed he was suffering from “temporary psychosis” – exhaustion and sleep deprivation.

5. Madonna
The ‘material girl’ grew up to become the 2016 Billboard Woman of the year. She gave a ten-minute emotional speech about her career of “34 years in the face of blatant misogyny, sexism, constant bullying and relentless abuse.” While she made some valid points about the rules and expectations being different for men and women, Madonna for the first time chose to play the victim. How can the wealthiest and most successful woman in the music business be a victim? “Madonna’s half-billion-plus net worth has earned her a spot on [Forbes] list of America’s Richest Self-Made Women.” Madonna also claimed that “to age is a sin” and yet she grossed $170 million from her Rebel Heart tour at age 58. Madonna also criticized the objectification of women by men and yet her entire success has been based on the selling and marketing of her sexuality and sexual appeal. Madonna even boasted at Madison Gardens that she would give oral sex to men who vote for Hilary Clinton – “if you vote for Hillary Clinton, I will give you a blow job — and I am good.”

Madonna’s argument that she has struggled against “misogyny, sexism, constant bullying” is a weak argument in the face of the fact that at age 53, she performed at the most important football game of the year, Superbowl XLVI in 2012.

Madonna also claimed in her speech that she was raped when she was 19 in NY, and yet in her own 1991 documentary, “Truth or Dare” Madonna laughed and mocked her make-up artist Sharon Gault when she revealed she had been drugged, raped and sodomized by a gang of men.

A woman who has been abused, raped, tortured, kidnapped, beaten, robbed or who struggles every day to feed her children who have been abandoned by their father can claim to be a victim; a woman who is worth 560 million dollars and can do whatever she wants at any time of the day cannot claim to be a victim.

4. Amber Heard – Johnny Depp
Amber Heard filed for divorce from Johnny Depp citing physical and verbal abuse over many years. In August, Johnny Depp chose to settle the divorce without a trial by agreeing to pay Amber Heard $7 million which Amber Heard said she would donate to charity. Then Depp announced he would send the money directly to the chraities thus allowing him to reap the tax breaks. However, by December 23, 2016, Depp failed to pay the first 2 installments and Amber Heard filed legal papers again while Depp claimed that Heard had broken their confidentiality agreement. Johnny Depp claims his legal fees are one million dollars. While it cannot be fully verified whether or not Depp abused Heard, it can be said that Depp’s first mistake was marrying a woman 23 years younger than him and, above all, allowing the legal battle to continue so that the only winner will be his attorney, Laura Wasser, who receives over one million dollar in legal fees.

3. Billy Bush
“Access Hollywood” and “Today” show host Billy Bush was let go (i.e. fired) from the Today show after the release in October 2016 of the audio of a conversation Billy Bush had with Donald Trump in 2005.

The audio recording of their conversation revealed Donald Trump, then host of NBC’s “The Apprentice” bragging to Bush about kissing and grabbing women without their consent. Bush was condemned for being overly receptive and further encouraging Trump’s comments. Trump recorded a video apology to the public. Ironically, Bush was fired from the Today show and the following month, Donald Trump was elected as President of the United States of America.

2. Ryan Lochte
Ryan Steven Lochte is a 12-time US Olympic medalist swimmer (six gold, three silver, three bronze), placing him second in swimming behind Michael Phelps. However, his behavior is far from exemplary or warranting the honor to represent one’s country. During the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil, Lochte claimed he and three fellow US swimmers had been had been pulled over and robbed by armed robbers in police uniform while in Rio de Janeiro. However, when the truth came out, it was revealed that Lochte and his fellow swimmers lied: they had not been not robbed; they had been intoxicated and vandalized a gas station and urinated on the property. Lochte eventually offered a fake apology: “I want to apologize for my behavior last weekend – for not being more careful and candid in how I described the events of that morning.” Lochte did little to truly apologize to the American people for his lies and bad behavior. He lost a million-dollar contract as a result.

1. Donald Trump
The No. 1 Celebrity Metldown of 2016 – Donald Trump threw an extraordinary amount of tantrums during the election year of 2016 fighting with an endless list even as President Elect, including Twitter, Vanity Fair, FOX News, Meghan Kelly, Joe Scarborough, New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Boeing, Alec Badlwin, SNL, Mitt Romney, Dr. Ben Carson, China, Mexico and his own political party – the Republicans. Above all, Donald Trump was criticized for suggesting political candidate Carly Fiorina has an ugly face, for verbally and physically mocking a disabled reporter from the NY Times, and for constantly starting Twitter wars with anyone and everyone who said anything negative about him.
