How your truth sets you free – getting clear about who you are and what you want

In this Success Newsletter, I would like to talk about how your truth sets you free – when you get clear about who you are and what you really want.

Recently I spoke to a group of 160 school children (ages 16-18) in Houston on “How to control your destiny.” The three key points I made were: 1. Get clear about what you want, 2. Believe in yourself and your abilities, 3. Become aware now of the voice in your head and stop listening to it when it disempowers you.

Today I would like to talk about the first point of “Get clear about what you want in your life.” In my new book, “Get what you want!” I explain that before you can hit a target you must first have one. That means, decide what you want and commit to it. Be aware of destructive tendencies such as instant gratification. What is destroying many of us is that we are fallling prey to the “feel good” nation and we are doing the same thing as individuals in our relationships. In other words, we give into the feeling of the moment without thought about the consequences of our actions. We lose our principles and values. The feel good – instant gratification response is what is behind the present corporate corruption culture. It is the same reason that we max out our credit cards, drink or eat excessively, give into internet adult content, lie, steal or cheat on our partners and bosses or give up at the smallest obstacle: We care only for the feel good moment. If we were to give into every single feeling and temptation we have, we would become totally selfish, thoughtless people and the result would be a complete breakdown of our civilization.

The solution is to establish your values and become clear about what you want in life and then commit to it. That involves self-discipline and the ability to say no – not because you are denying yourself the opportunity to have fun or feel good but because you are saying yes to those things that you truly want. Does the Olympic athlete say, “It feels better to stay in bed at 4 AM and so I won’t get up and train”? No. The successful person makes a decision about what he or she wants, commits to it, and follows through -even when the going gets tough. This is the same response we need in every area of our life: work, home and family – in all of our relationships. There will be times when you will need to be strong, act in spite of your mood and stick to your values and say, “No!” -regardless of other people’s opinions & approval. The beauty of this principle is that the more you practice committing to what you want no matter what, the better you will feel about yourself. You will be proud of your strength and integrity. You will be true to yourself and who you are. You will also feel good and strong with high self-esteem because you are being accountable and responsible for all of your actions. You will have less stress and greater inner strength and peace. This is the meaning behind “the truth shall set your free.” Be true to yourself, to what you want and to your values and principles.

If you would like to know how to become clear about what you want and how to get what you want, then I humbly suggest you read or listen to my new book, “Get what you want!” (audio book or Ebook)  And if you want to find greater inner strength to say no and stop trying to please others, then I suggest using my hypnosis audio program -“Feel Good About Yourself!”

I wish you the best and remind you “Believe in yourself -You deserve the best!”
