“A spate of new Hollywood movies has sex as either the main focus or integral to the plot: sex with minors, porn addiction, sex addiction, graphic gay and lesbian sex – even necrophilia… there’s far less difference between porn and other genres than there used to be.” (From the article “10 Porniest Fall Flicks: Hollywood’s Sleazy Season Opens) – https://newsbusters.org/blogs/katie-yoder/2013/10/02/10-porniest-fall-flicks-hollywood-s-sleazy-season-opens

Is Hollywood’s latest film offering and trend shocking?

Human Behavior Expert, Patrick Wanis PhD responds:

“Why is anyone surprised that porn has become a common element and feature in Hollywood movies?

Pornography, sexualization of girls and explicit sex are everywhere; it is a logical progression that the business of Hollywood would cash in by taking the cultural movement to the next level.

Look! Pornography and sexualization of girls are everywhere – in books, music, advertising and television: literature (50 Shades of Grey), music and music videos, live TV performances and award performances (Miley Cyrus), TV shows, advertising (Victoria’s Secret, Abercrombie & Fitch), porn is completely mainstream – on computers and phones, even girls as young as age 12 (including many who attend Bar and Bat Mitzvahs) are looking like prostitutes – dressing up in really short skirts, stilettos and heavy makeup.

Mothers are dressing their little pubescent girls as skanks; men, businessmen and even wives are frequenting strip clubs as an average outing; female teachers and middle-aged women are having sex with underage boys; music and music videos are touting the value of young girls as sexual hot property; shop windows are looking like porn displays (Victoria’s Secret); escorts are being elevated to expert status – Elliot Spitzer’s prostitute Ashley Dupre is awarded a column in the New York Post, Porn actress, Jenna Jameson is awarded a published book about how to make love like a porn star, and; porn is now truly mainstream, playing on most people’s computers and phones – it’s acceptable and it’s everywhere.

The cultural shift is not only about sex, it’s about a general degradation of values; the most highly watched show on TV today, Breaking Bad creates an anti-hero who makes and sells drugs (Meth) and dissolves people’s bodies in acid. Even The Emmy Awards has lost its sophistication – Michael Douglas receives an award and makes a sexual gay joke to Matt Damon about whether or not Matt would prefer to be on top or on the bottom.”
