Angry attacks over Terry Richardson
Angry attacks over Terry Richardson

The following is an email exchange between an angry reader and Patrick Wanis as a result of an article by FOX News quoting Wanis; the article reveals that Playboy magazine is using controversial fashion photographer Terry Richardson who has been accused of sexual assault spanning a decade.  Additional reading and links to Terry Ricardson photos are below.

Dear Karen,

I see N…. sent you my original quotes and you will notice that I was comparing the Bill Cosby case with Terry Richardson as a way to explain why people don’t care as much about Richardson as they do about Cosby who is the product – America’s dad.

Second, the fact that Terry Richardson is still shooting for the biggest fashion corporations in the world and for the biggest celebrities simply validates my assertion that people don’t care about the photographer as much as they care about the photo.

Third, the reporter did not ask me for my opinions about whether or not the above is right or wrong, nor was I asked about its effect on women.

Fourth, I suggest you research my work to determine whether or not I express concern for women and insight into women’s issues – https://youtu.be/btwwRycL-pk

Fifth, you call him a “sexual predator”; I do not as there are no charges against him and no conviction. I do, however, mention “accusations” against him.

Sixth, if you truly want to make change, then you should be contacting the celebrities that actually hire him – Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus (he produced her video “Wrecking Ball” which has over 700 million views), Barrack Obama, Martha Stewart, Marilyn Manson, Mariah Carey, Sharon Stone, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cameron Diaz, Megan Fox, Lindsay Lohan, Kat Dennings, Liza Minnelli, Katy Perry, Kate Moss, Miranda Kerr, Kim Kardashian, Samuel L. Jackson, Tracy Morgan, Jared Leto, Amy Winehouse, Jon Bon Jovi, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, Lil Wayne, Daft Punk, Shaun White, LeBron James, and hundreds of other celebrities!

Seventh, if you truly want to make change, then you should be contacting the corporations (and female executives) that actually hire him – Vogue, YSL, Valentino, Harper’s Bazaar, GQ, Playboy, Mercedes Benz, H&M, Vogue, Aldo, Esprit, Bulgari, Estee Lauder, Carolina Herrera, Cole Haan, Dolce & Gabbana, Juicy Couture, Isaac Mizrahi, Jimmy Choo, Diesel, Mango, Macy’s, Target, Kardashian Collection, Marc Jacob, Tom Ford, Rolling Stone, and the tens of other global corporations! You might be shocked to learn that it is women who are hiring him.

Eighth, if you truly want to make change, then you should be signing and promoting the petition for companies to stop hiring Terry Richardson. https://www.change.org/p/big-brands-stop-using-alleged-sex-offender-pornographic-terry-richardson-as-your-photographer

Ninth, I said to FOX News, “Magazines, celebrities and global corporations will continue to fund Richardson’s work/behavior until such time that consumers stop buying their products!” Please look at the list of all the people, celebrities and corporations and ensure that you are not shopping in their stores, buying their products (magazines, clothing, food, etc.), listening to their music, or watching their videos, movies or TV shows so that you can ensure that you are not supporting Terry Richardson.

Tenth and finally, you might be interested to know that while you attacked me because you  interpreted my quotes as potential support for Terry Richardson, Terry Richardson/his studio attacked me directly over their interpretation of my  quotes, “Once again , inaccurate reporting , hearsay and blog posts are what you base your opinion on? You should know better….Does that seem like fair and accurate reporting?” And, again, I am not the reporter, nor the author of the story.

I hope the above provides you with the insights you were seeking, and more importantly helps you to direct your anger in a way that you can achieve your goal to actually make a change and not simply attack.

All the best,

Patrick

Mr. Wanis,

I strongly object to the quote provided by you regarding Terry Richardson.  ““The fashion world is not the TV world. It is much sleazier, its consumers don’t care about the personal behavior of the photographer/artists because he is not the end product. But consumers are buying the sex when they buy — directly or indirectly — Richardson’s photos/work,” human behavior expert Patrick Wanis PhD, told FOX411. “His bad image, reputation and accusations against him only further encourage people to hire him when they want to sell sex, rebellion and provocation.” https://koepi.org/playboy-has-terry-richardson-shoot-entire-issue-despite-past-assault-claims/

Really?  Do you truly believe that this sexual predator and his photographs encourage people to hire him when they want to sell “sex, rebellion and provocation?”  And if that’s true, where is the follow on quote about how the marginalization of sexual predators by corporations affect women of all ages in all cultures?

Supposedly you have insight into women, I would beg to disagree after reading these pitiful quotes attributed to you today.

Maybe you need a therapist just like Terry Richardson, and all the sick people hiring this man today.

Wishing you all the best along with some deeper insights,

Karen P

“Who took 1970’s porn esthetic and made it fashion chic? Terry Richardson. Who made the trailer park trendy and the tractor hat de rigueur? Richardson again. Who’s equally at home in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Purple and Vice? Our boy Terry. Who uses his fashion money to fund an X-rated website? Yes, Richardson. And who can’t resist getting his clothes off and jumping in front of his own lens? Well, that would be Terry Richardson as well. Porn stars, supermodels, transsexuals, hillbillies, friends, pets, and celebrities all do for his lens what they’ll do for no other. And if anyone ever wonders why they did it, just blame it on Terryworld, where taboos are null and void, and fashion finds sex a perfect fit.
