“Barrack Obama addressed the NAACP convention in Ohio and says it’s time for personal responsibility and better parenting: “But we also have to demand more from ourselves…Because … no matter how many 10-point plans we propose, or how many government programs we launch — none of it will make any difference if we don’t seize more responsibility in our own lives.” Obama says parents have to take responsibility, provide “direct guidance to children and “that what makes them a man is not the ability to have a child but to raise one.”

Scott Sloan of 700WLW interviews Patrick Wanis who agrees with Obama and says dads are to blame for rising teen pregnancies and for data that shows more youth offenders ages 12 to 17 were involved in serious violent crimes in 2005-2006. Patrick wishes to clarify his comments in the radio interview that young children can tell the difference between fantasy and reality. He is referring to children over age eight. Patrick says that children imitate the violence they see on TV. Children under age eight cannot tell the difference between reality and fantasy, making them more vulnerable to learning from and adopting as reality the violence they see on TV.
