In this week’s Success Newsletter, I would like to talk about goal setting and money.

First a quick update:

Watch me on University of Miami’s “off the wire” late night TV show.

Listen to my special audio program, “The Psychology of Anger”.

For the international traveler, VIVA – Dubai’s glossy women’s magazine will be featuring me answering reader’s questions about how to keep the romance alive

The Montel show is looking for a family that wants to save its marriage and is willing to do what it takes. Montel is offering a unique opportunity to get the help by having me live in your house for five days, working and coaching every member of the family. This would normally cost thousands of dollars but is a gift. The experience will be taped for TV and the family would be flown to NY for an in-studio interview. If you or someone you know is interested, kindly send us an email.

Now let’s talk about goal setting and money.

Is it possible to hit a target when you can’t see it? Of course not! If you decide to get what you want, then you must first be clear about what you want and why you want it. You have probably also heard me say that you get more of what you focus on. So on what are you focusing?

The majority of people spend most of their time focusing on what they don’t want and on just getting-by. Too many of us spend most of our time focusing on and hitting the same target over and over again, failing to set new targets and goals for what we truly want. If all of your energy is spent on surviving –paying the bills, getting-by pay check to pay check, then you will stay stuck and you will continue to just get more of the same. For some people, it is too scary to actually sit down and write out a few simple goals. Some people get fooled into thinking that what they are now is all they will ever be and what they have is all that they will ever have. Some people simply can’t imagine things changing in their world. In other words, the present experience and reality creates new disempowering and crippling beliefs about what is possible.

The key to creating new results and success in your life is to reprogram what you feel and believe about what you can be, do and have in your life.

This is a process. Step one is to expand your beliefs about what is possible and to begin spending more energy focusing on what you want and how it would feel once you have it. As I explain in my book “Get What You Want!”, while it is vital to visualize what you desire, it is more important to emotionalize what you visualize.

So here is a phenomenally powerful exercise that is not in any of my books (yet) and which I am sharing with you for the first time. This exercise will also help you to establish what you want, and why you want it.

Write out a list of 5-10 goals for which you want more money, along with the benefit and the resulting emotion. These goals can be small or large, short or long-term.

For example,

  1. I want more money to hire an accountant to organize my finances & file my taxes so that I can easily manage my money and feel more in control of my financial life and feel secure, stable and relaxed.
  2. I want more money to take a ten-day vacation to Paris and Spain with my husband so that we can relax, have fun together, connect deeply once again and feel alive, free and loved.
  3. I want more money to have my teeth laser-cleaned so that they can be pearly white and I can feel healthy and more confident when I smile.
  4. I want more money to hire a personal trainer so that I can become toned and lean and feel strong, proud, happy, tall and confident.
  5. I want more money to buy a new car – a convertible so that I can drive with the top down and listen to my favorite music and I feel happy, free, independent, joyful and proud

Do this written exercise daily, and progressively expand the details of each desired item. For example, I want more money to take a ten day vacation in Paris and Spain with my husband traveling first class, experiencing new cultures and having fun together, connecting deeply, being highly romantic, laughing, sharing and playing, visiting the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, traveling on a sleeper train to Spain and feeling happy, free, confident, proud, successful, special, blessed, loved, rich and wealthy!

Eventually, you can simply close your eyes and visualize and emotionalize this exercise -you will thoroughly enjoy doing it. Does it get results? I listed that I wanted a new laptop and when my birthday arrived, my friend Jerry gave me a new laptop. And no, I never asked him – he just did it!

Begin doing it today and check out my book: “Get What You Want!”.
